Accessibility

If we are hard to use, that is our problem.

We support people with disabilities for a living, so an inaccessible website would be a poor advertisement. We aim to meet WCAG 2.2 level AA, and we want to hear when we fall short.

What we have done

  • Built the site with semantic HTML so screen readers can navigate by heading, landmark and list.
  • Added a “skip to content” link as the first focusable element on every page.
  • Kept body text at a contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1 against its background, and large text at least 3:1.
  • Made every interactive element reachable and operable by keyboard, with a visible focus indicator.
  • Labelled all form fields, with error and status messages announced through live regions.
  • Honoured prefers-reduced-motion, so animation can be switched off at the operating-system level.
  • Written link text that makes sense out of context, rather than “click here”.
  • Used relative units and fluid type so the layout works when text is zoomed to 200%.
  • Provided text alternatives for meaningful images, and hidden decorative ones from assistive technology.

Known limitations

We would rather be honest than claim perfection. The areas we are still working on:

  • Some older documents published on this site may not yet be fully accessible. We can supply an accessible version of any document on request.
  • Third-party tools we link to — for example map services — are outside our control.

Tell us about a barrier

If something on this site is difficult to use — with a screen reader, a keyboard, magnification, voice control, or anything else — please tell us. Include the page and what went wrong. We will respond and, where we can, fix it.
